Under the Table and Dreaming

Our boys love to play under our coffee table. This coffee table was passed down to us from my parents when Dan and I first got married and did not have any furniture. The coffee table was actually my parent's first dining room table. When my parents got married my dad was in seminary, so they did not have a lot of extra money to spend on furniture. They found the table top in Louisville, KY at a flea market for five bucks and found the four legs in Spartanburg, SC at a flea market for a dollar a leg. My dad sawed off the legs years later to serve as a play/game table for my brother, sister and I. This table has seen some good times and we hope to continue that legacy. We dream of it one day being the place where Atticus and Isaiah will build their Lego city with Dan's old Legos. Until that day comes we are using it as the boys hideout spot. Dan started it by putting a blanket on top of the table, which the boys really loved. They enjoy crawling in and out of it, playing peek-a-boo with each other and occasionally pull the blanket off of the table. Here are a few shots of their play time under the table:

A Brand New Ride

My sister's little boy Thomas is one year older than my boys. This has worked out perfectly for us when it comes to sharing clothing, shoes, toys, etc. Thomas had a riding toy which was passed down to the boys a few months ago. Having just one riding toy wasn't that big of a deal at first. Atticus and Isaiah were very good about taking turns with the walker/car (it transforms). I had always left it in the walker mode to encourage them to walk. Dan and I discussed getting a second riding toy, but we thought that we would wait until it became an issue. Well last Saturday it became an issue. On Saturday morning I transformed it into a car as I had done many times before...only this time they both went crazy. They pushed and shoved each other trying to see who could get on the car first. So Saturday evening I went out and bought another riding toy using a gift card- I can't believe I still have gift cards for them, what a blessing!

They were so excited Sunday to have two riding toys. They have to share so much, it is nice for them to have something to call their own. Here are some pictures of the boys and their cars.

The Entertainment Center

When Dan and I first got married we looked for an entertainment center for months. Dan wanted an entertainment center with 4-5 shelves for all of our sound equipment and his video game systems. We found the perfect one and it has suited us well until the kids started to crawl. It is not a kid friendly entertainment center...we have removed the two lowest glass shelves on either side and now it looks like we may have to remove another one soon. Soon all of our movies will be packed away in a box. The fun thing about this situation is that there are two new cubby hole areas for the boys to play in. I have been waiting for them to discover them and they finally did this week.

We are probably going to have to get their haircut before their first birthday. I think that they are starting to get tiny mullet's in the back. Dan thinks they look really awesome. Here is a good mullet shot of Atticus.

My dad and sister watched the boys for me on Tuesday so I could go to a baby shower for a friend. When I came home my dad said that Isaiah had been entertaining them by crawling around with a basket on his head. Isaiah must have showed Atticus his trick because later on that afternoon both of the boys were crawling around with baskets on their heads- they can't really see where they are going so they run into things alot...

Table Manners?

When I feed the kids I always put them in their high chairs and give them a few cheerio's to munch on while I fix their meals. Today when I came back from the kitchen I noticed that Atticus had managed to get his leg out from underneath his highchair. I have no idea how he did it, but he stayed like that long enough for me to go get the camera. I guess we will have to start working on table manners soon. :)

Hilton Head with the Adams

We just got back from a week long vacation with Dan's family at Hilton Head. Dan's sister Allison works in Hilton Head so it seemed like a good idea to vacation there this summer. Dan's parents found the perfect place for us to stay in Shipyard. A typical day went something like this: wake up at 6 am (one of the joys of vacationing with children) , take an early morning walk to the beach, eat, morning nap, go to the pool, eat, afternoon nap, go to the beach, eat, put the kids to bed at 6:30 (one of the joys of vacationing with children), go on a long bike ride while my sweet mother-in-law stays at home with the sleeping kids, play games, eat again, go to sleep, repeat.

While Atticus and Isaiah do look alike, they responded very differently to the beach. Atticus loved the sand! He played in it, ate it and really enjoyed himself. Isaiah didn't really want to touch the sand, I guess he thought it was too dirty. Atticus loved the ocean, one day he walked down to the ocean (with Dan's help) and walked into the waves. Isaiah would only go in the ocean if you held him and made him go in. This was very amusing to me, especially since Isaiah is usually my bold and daring child. One day we took them out to the ocean in waist deep water and they both really enjoyed the waves. We were having a great time until I got stung by a jellyfish and decided that it probably was not a good idea for the boys to be in the ocean. So we spent the rest of the week on the shore, which was still a lot of fun.

Overall it was a very relaxing vacation. Grandmother and Granddaddy Great came down for the week and Great Uncle Dave came from Atlanta for a few days- it was a special treat to get to see them. Here are some pictures from our vacation.
