At Last!

I have been terrible about blogging lately. This is mainly due to the boys going down to one nap. It has been much harder to find the time to blog. I have been working on some sewing projects as well as painting our bedroom furniture. But with relatives so far away and with their subtle hints for an updated blog post I have decided that it was time to do a brief update of the past few months.

Dan's parents came to see us in March- it was our first time to see them since Christmas. It was a great visit, we spent a lot of time outside since that is the boys favorite thing to do.

My mom's sister Linda and her husband Allen came down for a week at the end of March to visit. We really enjoyed their visit- and Aunt Linda saved the day by helping me finish the boys Easter outfits. She is a miracle worker.

Easter was spent here in Augusta with my family. Tim, Leia and Claire came over from Birmingham to celebrate with us. We had our first Easter egg hunt out at mom and dad's lake house, it was really fun. Atticus seemed to understand the whole hunting for egg concept, Isaiah did not. When he discovered that the first egg that he found contained animal crackers, he stopped hunting and started eating.

After the boy's afternoon nap we have a snack. They love these little camping chairs that we bought for them....so everyday they eat their snack and watch a little Veggie Tales or Raffi. This is about the only time during the day when they are still- and it only lasts for about 5 minutes. As soon as their snack is over they are up and running again.

Isaiah has a new found love for the guitar. He loves to turn just about anything into a guitar. He will strum it, say "dee dee dee" and dance to the music that he is creating. Its awesome!

Saturday mornings are a lot of fun for us- mainly because we get to have morning snuggle time with the kids. We probably enjoy this more than they do....

Another milestone in the lives of the boys was their first wedding. My dear friend from nursing school, Amanda, married Marc on April 24th. The boys loved the kid-friendly reception that included goldfish, heart-shaped pb&j's and a coloring table.

A Trip to the Zoo

Last Saturday we made a trip to the Columbia zoo. Margie rode with us and we met up with Seth and Rachel at the zoo. I had been trying to explain to the boys what the zoo was- Atticus did say the word zoo a few times- but I knew that they had no idea what I was saying. They did not take a nap on the way to the zoo so they were pretty tired most of the trip. I think that they are a little too young to get excited about the animals. They were intrigued and would stare at them, but it was hard to tell if they were enjoying it. Here's the basic stare they gave the animals:

They called every animal that they saw a dog. We tried to get them to say other names, but they wouldn't. So according to Atticus and Isaiah we saw a very wide variety of dogs at the zoo.

We spent a few hours at the zoo and then went to eat lunch with Rachel's parents at Chipotle. After a nice lunch we said our goodbyes and made our way home.

A Fun Day!

The boys were in a terrific mood when they woke up this morning- which is always nice. They played together very well and spent sometime playing with the sunshine this morning. They have always been fascinated with the sun that comes from our dining room. Here are a few sun shots:

We also hung out with our dear friend and my old roommate Margie. She was in North Augusta this afternoon so we got to hang out with her at Hammonds Ferry. It is a nice housing development that runs along the Savannah River. It has a great bakery/cafe and some other businesses which make it a really fun place to rendezvous. Margie was finishing up lunch when we arrived, so we went down to the river area where they have a giant field so that the boys could stretch their legs. Margie and I live in the same town, but sadly it has been almost a year since I have seen her! It was really fun to catch up with her and hear what she's up to. While we were down at the river we noticed a gathering of a bunch of worker/supervisor looking men looking at something. We went closer and realized that a floating dock that we had both been on numerous times had sunk. See the picture below:

One of the guys that was down there knew Margie and he told us that apparently there was a group of about 30 school kids (I guess on a field trip) who were on the dock and it started to sink. Someone said that all the kids got wet, some said only 4 got wet- who really cares- everyone made it out alright. So then we got to watch them bring in a big tractor thing (no I have no idea what it really was-sorry) and haul it up onto the riverbank. Atticus and Isaiah were very excited to see a real tractor in action. I was so glad to have my camera because I knew Dan would be interested and I would have no way to describe it to him to his satisfaction. The rest of the time we just hung out on the field, Margie chased the boys a lot, the boys found a bunch of really cool sticks and we managed to take a group shot before we said goodbye. It was a great time and Margie and I have vowed to get together more often.

Finally here are a few pictures of the boys chowing down on some Valentines cookies that my mother-in-law, their grandmother sent them. She made them and decorated them and then mailed them from Virginia- so that made them taste extra good. As you can see the boys enjoyed them.

I have always wished, hoped and prayed that our boys would be good friends to each other. It is really awesome to see the different and new ways that they are interacting with one another. Most of the time they are the best of friends- although we do have days that could be described as one incredibly long wrestling match. Here are a few pictures of the boys hanging out together.

They have been enjoying the boots my dad bought them when they were babies- they are about 4 sizes too big. They are watching Raffi singing a song on T.V., this is about the only time I can get them to stand still for a picture.

In other news the boys are starting to feed themselves- which I am really excited about! I probably should have started them earlier on this, but I am not a big fan of food messes. Isaiah really likes to feed himself and he does really well. Atticus is not so thrilled- he really prefers for me to feed him and he has learned that if he starts to play with his food I will come over and feed him. It is saving me a little more time which is always nice, and I think they are enjoying the independence.

We have moved the wicker chairs out of the living room, because the boys were slowly picking them apart- lovely. Anyway they now have more access to the curtains, which means more fun!

2010 Blizzard hits the Dirty South

After 5 long years of living in Augusta there is finally some snow to speak of. One the things I miss most about Richmond, besides my wonderful parents and extended family, is the occasional snow. Of course I know Richmond is getting slammed this year so it makes it harder then usual for us not to get any snow down here. We've had a few close calls but the snow never seems to quite reach us. They were calling for snow today but I didn't think we'd get much and I certainly didn't think it would stick.

Well, not only did we get some but it stuck to everything. It's a solid 2-3 inches so far and still coming down. The tress are covered and it's pure beauty in ever direction. There is something so peaceful and humbling about snow.

These pictures are obviously of the beginning of the snow. It started right as I got home from work. There's a lot more on the ground now and I'll be putting up some better pictures tomorrow morning.

The boys love all things "outside" so the snow coming down was another thing for them to get really excited about. Carrie tried to teach them to say, "snow" but the best they could do was to say "no." Isaiah was swatting at it when we were outside. He also fell over and did a face plant into a snow covered pile of leaves. I'm sure they'll be out in tomorrow. More photos to come. Oh yeah, Carrie would like for everyone to know that this post is by me and not her if you haven't already figured that out yet. I think she's a little offended by the phrase, "dirty south."

Busy Boys

We have been up to all sorts of things lately. Mainly getting rid of one cold only to get another cold...so we have been spending lots of quality time at home. Here are some pictures for your viewing pleasure.

Sew, A Neddle Pulling Thread

A few years ago the adults in my family decided to do white elephant gifts instead of real gifts for each other at Christmas. The kids still get real gifts and the adults get to enjoy the less stressful/less expensive side of Christmas. Its really awesome because I have always managed to get really great gifts from people. This year I told my mom that I wanted her old sewing machine as my white elephant gift from her. She was very eager to give it up- I think that it has been over 20 years since she last touched it. She was however very skeptical that it would work.

But she gave it to me anyway and it works like a champ! Here is a picture of my new/old sewing machine:

I had bought pillow forms to make pillow for the boys a couple of months back. I went this week to Joann Fabrics- my new favorite place to spend hours of time- and picked out a fun train pattern for their pillow cases. I watched a few how to sew videos on youtube (you've got to love technology) and viola I present the boys new pillow cases.

The pillowcases are not perfect, but they are relatively rectangular and the boys love them. When I gave them to them they laid down on the floor and pretended to be asleep. Atticus even did some pretend snoring.

The sewing machine also came with an awesome, seventies yellow craft box. Inside the craft box was a rockin pattern for some bell bottom pantsuits- Charlie's Angels style. I think that this may be my next sewing project. :)
