Trunk or Treat

Today was a really fun day for our family. We started out the morning by painting our pumpkins. I had thought about doing this earlier in the week but I decided to wait for Dan because I thought that I would need the extra help, plus I thought that he would enjoy it too. It was a messy success. Dan's summary of the experience was, "It was 30 minutes of prep work for 3 minutes of fun." That's pretty accurate. The kids enjoyed painting their pumpkins, especially Atticus. He really got the hang of it and did not need much help painting his pumpkin. Isaiah was a little more timid, which is surprising for him. They got paint all over their faces, in their hair, etc....needless to say they got a bath at 11 in the morning. :)

We were going to go to a festival downtown called Jack-o-lantern Jubilee this afternoon. I was so excited about going that I accidentally locked us out of the house! Opps! We usually keep a spare key hidden, but we did not have one anywhere. Dan had to break the lock on the door and then get a new door knob from Lowes. So we did not make it to the Jubile... but there is always next year! Thankfully the kids did not know what they were missing.

After dinner we went to my parent's church for Trunk or Treat. The boys went to this last year, but they were too little to remember. They really enjoyed getting candy in their buckets and walking from car to car. Atticus kept sitting down on the ground to play with his candy. They had some games for the kids to play, Isaiah enjoyed putting rings around the little pumpkins. Both of the boys had a great time and did not seem to mind wearing their costumes the whole time.

A Picnic with the Pumpkins

My mom bought pumpkins for the boys this year from a local pumpkin patch. We would have gone with her, but we were out of town when she went. When we got back from Hilton Head on Sunday afternoon the pumpkins were waiting for us on our back porch. Earlier in the day she dropped off the pumpkins and a picnic table that she is letting us borrow. The boys were delighted to see the pumpkins and the picnic table, it has provided us with a lot of entertainment already this week.

They love to do the same things, if one is drinking juice the other one has to start drinking his juice.

We are obviously still working on sharing....

After admiring the pumpkins for a while they decided to rearrange the furniture on the porch....

We have some weeds growing in some planters on the back porch. The boys love to play with the weeds, especially this long vine looking weed.

Hilton Head with the Grands

This past weekend we went to Hilton Head to visit Allison and the Grands. Allison ran a 5K in Bluffton on Saturday morning. We got up early and went to watch her race. She did really well-2nd in her age group!

After the race we went back to her house so that the boys could take a nap. After nap time we went to the beach- Allison lives only a block from the beach, which is awesome! We played at the beach for a while, the boys enjoyed pushing their strollers along the beach. Isaiah saw a little boy playing with toys beside us, he decided to walk over and make friends, he really likes toys...

Grandmother Great and Granddaddy Great came down from Newport News, VA on Saturday afternoon. Grandmother Great had received a week long vacation at the Disney Resort in Hilton Head as part of her retirement present last year. The place where they were staying was really beautiful! We had a great time with them and they enjoyed watching the boys try to destroy everything. We went on several walks to Shelter Cove Marina, drooling over the huge yachts. It was great to see everyone, Allison was a gracious host and we are so thankful to have such a wonderful family!

Snuggle Hats

The beginning of this week was pretty cold, so the boys got to try out some of their winter weather gear. I bought these adorable bear hats for them last winter. Their heads are now big enough for them to wear them. Dan calls them "nancy hats" or girlie hats. I feel that they are still little, so they are allowed to wear cute things. Even Dan cannot deny that they look super cute when they are wearing them.

Atticus and Isaiah love to play near the entertainment center-we removed some shelves a while back to give them a little cubby area to play in. On one side of the entertainment center there are these two cords that are always plugged into the wall- they control our fun kid music, so I can't move them. The boys love to touch these cords anytime they can. They now know that they are not supposed to touch them because they look at me and smile right before they touch them. They try to be cute and covert in their attempts to play with the cords- here are a few shots.

This last shot is not related, but I wanted to show my wonderful mother-in-law a picture of the boys in the pj's that she bought them. They fit well!

Isaiah discovered the bi-fold doors that close off our washer and dryer from our kitchen. He has learned how to open the doors, get inside and close the doors behind him. This is a great game for him and on Monday he showed Atticus how to play. They ran into problems when Isaiah kept trying to shut the doors and Atticus kept trying to open the doors. Here are a few shots of them playing with the doors.

Peek-a-boo

On Saturday I gave them peanut butter crackers again, sandwiching the peanut butter between two crackers to try to avoid a big mess. Atticus immediately took his crackers apart, smashed both crackers onto the side of his face and rubbed the peanut butter up and down his face. It was so gross- but definitely a photo opportunity.

Peanut Butter and the Streak

The boys have started to eat peanut butter- which they really love! I started out giving them just a tiny layer of peanut butter on one cracker. Now we have moved up to a peanut butter cracker sandwich, to try to make things a little less messy. Isaiah has learned how to take his crackers apart, so it's still pretty messy.

Last night while Dan and I were eating dinner the boys were playing in the dining room and kitchen. Isaiah disappeared into the kitchen for a few minutes. When he returned to the dining room he was holding his shorts over his head and squealing with delight. This made Dan and I laugh really hard and then I ran for the camera. He did a couple victory laps around the kitchen island...he was very proud of himself. I am not really sure how he got them off, but these shorts are kind of big for him. :)

Slides

Last Saturday Dan and I took the kids to a park with tons of great playground equipment. The boys enjoyed exploring the slides and tunnels (with lots of responsible adult supervision). My camera battery died, because I am not disciplined enough to remember to charge it, but I got a few shots before it died.

Fish for dinner

I feed the boys their dinner prior to our dinner. Dinnertime consists of the boys sitting in their highchairs munching on various snacks while we try to eat. Last night the snack was goldfish. Atticus was not very interested in this snack. He ended up throwing most of them on the floor but one landed in his hair and stayed there for several minutes.
